Peace of Mind: How to Know Your Cat is Happy While You’re Away

Leaving your cat while you go on holiday can be stressful. You want to be sure they aren’t just fed and watered, but truly happy. As a professional cat sitter, I see the signs of a content cat every single day, and I love sharing them with owners so you can travel with a lighter heart.

Here are the tell-tale signs that your cat is doing just fine:

The “Greeting” Ritual

When I arrive, a happy cat often greets me with a chirp or a soft meow, or by winding around my legs. It’s their way of saying, “I’m pleased you’re here!”

Relaxed Body Language

A cat that feels safe will show it. Look for signs like slow blinking, ears facing forward, and a relaxed tail. If they are choosing to snooze near me or even in the same room while I work, it’s a big vote of confidence.

Natural Routines

When a cat keeps up with their usual grooming, playing, and—most importantly—their appetite, it’s the best indicator that they are feeling comfortable and “at home” despite your absence.

The Purr Factor

Nothing beats that low, rumbling purr when they settle in for some attention. It’s the ultimate sign of a cat who feels secure and cared for.

My goal is always to keep your cat’s routine as consistent as possible so they feel exactly as they would if you were just in the other room.

Want to see these signs for yourself? I often send photo updates during my visits so you can see your cat’s happy face while you’re away. Get in touch to discuss your next booking!
