When temperatures soar, our pets feel the heat just as much as we do. As a pet sitter, I’m often asked: 

“Does my cat really need two visits a day when it’s this hot?”

The answer, quite simply, is yes — and here’s why. 

During a heatwave, a cat’s needs can change quickly. A single daily visit may not be enough to ensure your cat is coping well with rising temperatures. With two visits each day, I’m able to provide more frequent care and keep a closer eye on their comfort and wellbeing. 

Refreshing Their Water

Cool, clean water should always be available during hot weather. Visiting twice allows me to refresh water bowls more frequently and help reduce the risk of dehydration. 

Monitoring for Heat Stress

Cats can sometimes hide signs of discomfort. During each visit, I check their activity levels, breathing, appetite, and general demeanour so I can spot any early signs of heat stress or distress. 

Keeping the Home Cooler

I can help manage the indoor environment by drawing curtains, checking room temperatures, and making sure your cat has access to the coolest, most shaded areas of the house. 

Extra Comfort and Companionship

Two visits also help break up your cat’s day and provide reassurance during the hottest hours. Alongside practical care, they receive companionship, attention, and an additional wellbeing check.
